The last time new iPads were released was in 2022, when some models got a refresh, including a standard 10th-generation iPad and iPad Air and Pro models. AdvertisementNew iPad Pros with OLED displaysThe expected upcoming iPad Pros could be quite a significant update. At the same time, OLED displays could hike the minimum price even further for the iPad Pro models, which are already the most expensive devices among the best iPads, starting at $799. The iPad Air has only been available in a 10.9-inch model to this point. The whole package could make the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard combination look similar to a Mac laptop.

Read previewSome tech devotees already seem to be losing interest in Apple's Vision Pro just months after the futuristic headset hit the market. That's bad news for Apple, which spent eight years and billions of dollars creating the Vision Pro. Apple has seemingly responded to the growing disinterest by boosting marketing around the device, evidenced by the Vision Pro's prime placement on the company's website. The Vision Pro requires its wearer to attach a battery, start the device, and move through its interface each use. BI's Jordan Hart foresaw some of those issues back in February, writing that she was running out of reasons to wear the Vision Pro after just one week.

AdvertisementTwo months ago, Tim Cook was busy marking Apple's bold new vision of the future with the launch of expensive nerd goggles. Second, the future of the Vision Pro remains highly uncertain. Just don't expect the Vision Pro to steal the show in the same way a big AI reveal would.

In the meantime we may see something decidedly less ambitious out of Apple: New iPads. It would be like a more portable Facebook portal. And while I've never heard of the Google Pixel, I had heard of the Facebook Portal, and... Facebook doesn't sell those anymore. On the other hand: My colleague Katie Notopoulos loved the Facebook Portal. But you never know: I spent decades not wearing a watch, and now if I forget to put on my Apple Watch before I leave the house I get anxious about losing my steps for the day.

The smart ring era is here. Honor, the mobile business spun out of Huawei, also announced this week that it's working on a smart ring. Avi Greengart, president and lead analyst at Techsponential, told Business Insider at MWC that Samsung's Galaxy Ring "validates the smart ring category." Rumors of an Apple smart ring have been simmering for over a decade — mostly due to a string of patents the company has filed for. There's another good reason tech companies are eyeing smart rings right now, according to IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo: subscriptions.

Read previewWhen Apple launches the Vision Pro on Friday, it could really do with developers lapping it up. Given the price tag, Apple watchers aren't expecting the Vision Pro to fly off the shelves immediately. AdvertisementTo spur future consumer sales then, Apple really needs developers onside to help make the Vision Pro a success. In theory, it means developers aren't strictly limited to releasing their apps to Apple users through its own App Store. More broadly, it puts Apple and developers at odds with each other at a moment when Apple really needs apps for Vision Pro.

Apple's iPhone 15 shipped with a bug that left some users with the "Apple logo of death." The issue occurred when they tried to transfer their information directly from an old iPhone. AdvertisementAdvertisementCustomers who snapped up an Apple iPhone 15 have been frustrated by a bug that left some of them with frozen screens. If the phone is already stuck on the Apple logo, users will have to restore the iPhone by connecting it to a Mac or PC via a cable. In a note last week, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said preorders for the iPhone 15 were up between 10% and 12% year-on-year compared with initial preorders for the iPhone 14.

Bloomberg reported that the new iPhone 15 will have "thinner bezels." That the fanfare is around thin phone borders really goes to show just how underwhelming the new model's changes could be. The new iPhone 15 could have its bezel — the border around a phone's screen — shrink from 2.2 millimeters to 1.5 millimeters. Aside from the barely there bezels, Bloomberg also shared a list of other changes that could come with the iPhone 15. Apple typically releases new iPhone models in September, but the company hasn't yet announced the new phone's release date.

Apple is already working on two follow-ups to its Vision Pro headset, Bloomberg reports. Apple's sky-high price tag for its latest product, the $3,499 Vision Pro headset, elicited groans from the crowd when it was announced. Instead, the entry-level device could be called something like the Apple Vision One — or simply the Apple Vision, according to the report. (Apple already runs this risk, even with the impressive screens currently within the Vision Pro.) Meanwhile, Apple is also working on a follow-up to the Vision Pro that will be even better, introducing a faster processor, Gurman reports.

Last week saw both Apple and Microsoft pause on speculative projects involving augmented reality and virtual reality, per reports. Apple has postponed its much-rumored augmented reality glasses because of technical challenges, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported. The metaverse was already a loose concept, a catch-all term for a vague theory that augmented reality and virtual reality is the future of computing, despite little evidence to back this up. Microsoft, reasonably early to the market with its HoloLens headset, has run into issues with one of its biggest customers: the US military. It's possible augmented reality and virtual reality devices do become popular among certain types of consumer, such as enthusiasts or gamers.
